RE: Water Heater Anode?

Suburban needs anode rod. Atwood does NOT need anode rod, uses a plastic plug.

RE: Need new tires/wheels for the fiver? Help please

I bought my Maxxis at Discount Tire. Don't know if they have a store down there, you might check phone book.

RE: Bottled water

My wife must drink distilled water. So we bought a distiller. You might look at here. Their model 4000 works great for traveling as glass jug can be stored INSIDE the distiller part. Only downside is it takes 4 hours to make a gallon. It works fine for us. Can easy start it before going to sleep. If you do not move every day, you can do one in the morning also.

RE: Seal in toilet

We do like Mr Lucky, always store with a cup or so of peanut oil in toilet. Sure keeps it lubed nice.

RE: WW FS2300 Wheel Bearing Failure

Sorry to hear of your trouble, glad nothing was really damaged. Sometimes bearings are not lubed enough, sometimes tightened wrong, sometimes Murphy sees you. That is why I always lube my wheel bearings on a new TT as soon as I get it home from the dealer. Then I at least know where I'm starting from.

RE: HEAT PUMP

We love ours. As said above, it is just an A/C that can run in reverse to cool the OUTSIDE, which means it warms the INSIDE, in heat mode. In cool mode it does the opposite.

RE: Travel Trailer Roofs

I've had/have rubber (at least I guess it is), aluminum, and fiberglass. IMO fiberglass is the best as it takes less maintenance, cleans easier, I don't see how it can leak, and doesn't scratch or dent easily. One the other hand, it is heavy, and expensive.

You have our sympathy. It is so hard to lose a child, furry or not.

RE: Going off the Planned Route

Well our TT is 21', and TV is 16', so we are 37'. Not quite 40, but close. We look for town parks, many small towns have them. Then you can walk around. Or we park on a side street, or sometimes find a supermarket. As said above, churches or banks, depending on day of the week. Never been hollered at yet. We never stay the nite in places like that, we use campgrounds, but for lunch, or to get an ice cream, or just to look in a neat store --- we do it all the time.

RE: Need new tires/wheels for the fiver? Help please

65 psi is Load Range D. In 225/75R15 they will hold 2540# each. Dual axle, so 10,160# on axles. If 15% on hitch your total max weight limit is 11,953# (in theory). If your 5er weighs 8800#, and 15% is on the hitch, only 7480# is on the axles, so 1,870# per tire. Thus your margin is 670# per tire, or 35% margin. Hope some of my babble makes sense. Guess it depends on tire size, but I think you are ok. I do agree that Chinese tires might be an issue personally I do not use them.

RE: I know you're out there...

Sorry, but you could have easily been asking about other hybrid owners. I do own one of those. In fact it is also 19'. We not only tow in a lot of mountains, we live in them. Actually a number of ways to read your post. IMO you need to change your title, but maybe it is just me. Oh well. Have fun out there, Chuck

RE: Need new tires/wheels for the fiver? Help please

Are the wheels junk you ask? It depends on what they are spec'd at, and for what size tires. Maxxis makes tires that are ST225/75R15 Load Range E, so 2830# per tire. So if your 5er is dual axle, that would be 11,320# on the axles. I'm not a 5er person, but don't they load 20% on the hitch? If so, those tires could be used on a trailer up to a weight of over 14,000#. So not all 15" wheels are unable to handle your 5er. Since tires exist, I'll bet wheels do also. So, what load range and size tires came on your 5er, how many axles does it have, and what is the axle rating? The wheels PROBABLY are not rated for any pressure above the stock tires, it is cheaper that way. So first figure what your EXISTING tire weight margin is. THEN decide if you want to up the load range. You might dismount a tire, the spare is usually easiest, to see if the wheel has markings on it. If it does you might find the weight or pressure rating. Usually on the inside UNDER the tire. Then decide if you want to go to 16" wheels or not. Just my opinion.

RE: tire wear

Have you every weighed it side to side at least? IMO see if you can weigh each wheel seperately. Some posters say it isn't needed, but most who say that have, IMO, never had theirs done. On our HTTTH ONE of the four wheels typically weighs 20% more than the other three when leaving on a trip. It is actually the wheel right under our big fridge, which will be FULL when we pull out. If it only wears on the OUTSIDE of the tire, it could be a bent or shifted axle, or that tire might be underloaded. Many semi truck alignment places can check (and fix) alignment on most trailers.

RE: Refrigerator on parked on a slope.

Here are the specs for my 2003 Norcold model N611 refrigerator. Refrigerator specs legal operation 3 degrees front to back (of trailer), 6 degrees side to side. Note 3 degrees would be 12” difference front to back on my 21’ trailer! Note 6 degrees would be 8.6” difference side to side at the tires! Note older fridges needed to be more level than this. Gas or electric makes no difference, it is the tubing that gets messed up.

RE: Death Valley Nat. Park

IMO you need to stay at least 4 or 5 days. If you have kids, they will likely wish to stay longer, ours did. In fact our kids thought DV was the best vacation we took with them. Of course we did NOT go in the summer. September is about the earliest you will want to go IMO.

RE: Using 50 as a route east from Sacramento Ca to Salina Utah

Another vote for 50. Nice road, but do not expect gas stations every 20 miles. Pay attention to where towns are and it is no problem.

RE: RV tire rim max air pressure

If it was mine I would NOT exceed the rim marked pressure unless the rim manufacturer told me it was ok IN WRITING. Bet no manufacturer will do anything that stupid. Probably the tires you have are a load range higher than the stock tires.

RE: Beach cart pulled by bicycle

We have one made for dogs. My wife has a handicap scooter which I put a hitch on. We can use it to pull the little (?) trailer so our aged German Shepherd can go with us on long "walks". Furchild walks until she is tired, then she rides in her trailer behind mommy.

RE: Trailer-Friendly Routes

IMO if you stay on the much prettier back roads you are not likely to find ANY unfriendly trailer roads. In over 170,000 trailering miles we've only seen TWO, both clearly marked, that were too curvy for trailers.
